Full Circle: Returning to NYC as an Artist
Last month’s visit to NYC filled my creative well with rich color prompts and inspirations. The city's dynamic contrasts—neon reflections on rain-slicked streets, the golden glow of Central Park at dusk—are now seeping into my work. Every brushstroke carries a whisper of that urban vibrancy.
Returning to NYC always stirs something deep within me. This city shaped me, tested me, and ultimately prepared me for the life I have now. I grew up here in the most formative way—attending Parsons and FIT in a patchwork of semesters, working three waitressing jobs just to get by. A semester here, a year off to save, then another semester until the money ran out. It was a hard, unforgiving time, but it built resilience.
Now, when I walk these streets, I do so with a different perspective. Life has given me the immense privilege of returning as a professional artist. I see the same skyline, the same streets, but now they shimmer with gratitude. Every sunset I witness here, I celebrate. It reminds me of how far I’ve come, how art has given me a path forward, and how, at last, I can experience this city's vibrancy not just as a struggle, but as a gift.
