The Intersection of Art and Experience: Why Making Art Matters
There is a rhythm beneath the brushstroke.
A quiet knowing.
The whisper of something ancient, waiting inside you.
When you enter my studio—through golden light and rustling pinon trees—you are not just coming to paint.
You are coming home.
The journey begins long before the first color touches canvas.
You arrive by way of a private, mile-long drive through 200 acres of enchanted Santa Fe land. Sculptures rise from the earth—Viola Frey’s monumental figures, the contemplative forms of Robert Houser, the raw elegance of Rico Eastman. The gates open. You cross Godmother Arroyo, the lifeblood of this sacred place, and step into something rare.
A contemporary, light-soaked studio opens before you. My personal painting space pulses quietly with works in evolution. A separate gallery wing welcomes you with flickering candles, soft music, and curated walls that hold both the past and the becoming. This is not a public space. It is a soul space. Invitation-only. You have been chosen.
Because you are ready.
Last week, I welcomed a young couple.
Both in the medical profession.
Steeped in precision, mastery, the kind of structure required to save lives.
But they came to create.
To let go.
And to welcome life.
They are bringing a beautiful soul into the world—expecting their first child.
And with tears shining in their eyes, they whispered to their paintings…
words of hope, of devotion, of prayer.
Brushstrokes became lullabies.
Color became language.
And through this sacred process, they began ushering their child earthside with presence, softness, and wonder.
They released control.
Not easily. But beautifully.
They painted as parents—not yet holding their baby, but already listening.
Intuitively. Tenderly.
And in this space—my sanctuary, now theirs—they found a new way to meet themselves.
And their future.
This is why art matters.
Not to make something perfect.
But to make something true.
This is not about “talent.”
This is about trust.
This is about returning—to your creative soul, to the language of intuition, to the beauty that longs to flow through you.
You don’t have to know how.
You simply have to arrive.
With 25 years of award-winning teaching, I’ve created a process that honors you—your pace, your path, your transformation. It is a painting experience unlike any other. You will leave changed. You will leave with a completed work of art. A painting only you can create.
You are invited.
To step into sacred space.
To paint what your soul remembers.
To meet yourself, perhaps for the very first time.
